Well, not quite. But things are on track for Ottawa's Light Rail Transit Network. Well, not quite, but public discussions are going on at least!

A number of public forums are being held to get feedback on all aspects of the project. On Saturday June 20th, one is being held presenting the pros and cons of the different technologies involved. The issues on the docket include automated versus manned trains, high-decked versus low-decked trains, multi-cared versus single-cared trains, and the issue of choosing a style that will be finctual in areas that will have to deal with car and pedestrian traffic as well as in the independent transit tunnel through downtown and through the Transitway.

There is a lot of literature available online for reading-up before the forum (or instead, who are we kidding). There are maps of how the trains and buses will run (in macro, of course) and examples of what other cities have done with certain technologies for comparison. There are 77 pages of subtleties to pour over, so dig in.

The discussion includes talks from Alain Mercier, the GM of transit services; Vivi Chi, manager of Ottawa's City Wide Transit, laying out the issues that must be dealt with; as well as the manufacturers trying to sell their trains here. The first 60 people to register are eligible for round table discussions with the presenting parties and there is a continental breakfast too, which 'aint bad.
